LAN Airlines is one of the leading airlines in Latin America. "LAN" makes reference to the consolidated entity that includes LAN Airlines, LAN Express, LAN Peru, LAN Ecuador, and LAN Argentina, as well as LAN Cargo and its affiliates. The LAN Alliance serves 15 destinations in Chile, 12 destinations in Peru, ten destinations in Argentina, two destinations in Ecuador, 15 destinations in other Latin American countries and the Caribbean, three destinations in the United States, two destinations in Europe and four destinations in the South Pacific, as well as 52 additional international destinations through its various code-share agreements. As of September 30, 2007, the LAN Alliance operates 70 passenger aircraft and 10 dedicated freighters.

We are one of the main international and domestic passenger airlines in Latin America, as well as the largest cargo operator in both Chile and most of the South American markets that we serve. We hold the largest market share of passenger traffic to and from Chile , Peru and Ecuador , as well as the largest market share of domestic passenger traffic in both Chile and Peru.

More recently, we have also achieved a solid and growing position in the Argentine domestic market through Lan Argentina and in the international market through our other passenger airlines. We are also the leading air cargo operator within, to and from South America . Our international and domestic passenger and cargo operations have increased substantially over the past four years in terms of capacity, traffic and revenue. Since 2002, passenger, cargo and total traffic revenues have grown 125.6 % , 105.9 % and 114.8 %, respectively.

History:
LAN Airlines is a member of oneworld (TM), the world's leading global airline alliance. It has bilateral commercial agreements with oneworld partners American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia and Qantas, as well as with Alaska Airlines, AeroMexico, Mexicana, TAM and Korean Air.

The origins of LAN go back to 1929 when the company was established by the Chilean government to provide air transport for passengers, cargo and mail. In 1946 the company began international operations with flights to Buenos Aires , Argentina , later launching services to the United States in 1958 and Europe in 1970.

In 1989, after 60 years as a state-owned enterprise, the privatization of LAN was initiated with the sale of 51% of the airline's equity to local investors and Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS). This process was completed in 1994 when the current controlling shareholders together with other major shareholders, acquired 98.7% of the company's shares, including those that were still controlled by the government.

Since that time LAN has been vigorously engaged in the expansion and internationalization of its operations, achieving sustained revenue growth and consistent profitability despite the many challenges the industry has had to face. In addition, LAN has created an extensive regional network, having established passenger operations in Peru, Ecuador and Argentina and cargo operations in Brazil and Mexico.

The company changed its corporate image in 2004, officially adopting the name "LAN Airlines S.A". The change aims to reflect the values and attributes common to all of the airlines making up the LAN alliance and emphasizes the organization's internationalization strategy.
